Estrogen therapy, also commonly known as hormone replacement therapy is a type of treatment that is used to replace hormones that a woman’s body no longer creates due to menopause.
MonaLisa Touch® is designed to specifically help women suffering from gynecological discomfort, involving a laser that uses cutting edge technology.
Lipogems® is a type of treatment that uses your own regenerative cells in order to remedy a number of conditions affecting the vagina. For example, this treatment can be used to help with vaginal atrophy, which can affect women during and after menopause.
We provide a holistic approach: offering minimally invasive procedures for women's intimate health all in one easy-to-reach location.
We provide the Lipogems® procedure, exclusive to the UK, as well as the MonaLisa Touch® treatment, both natural and almost pain-free.
Our specialists are all highly regarded in their field of expertise.
Making sure that we provide treatments to our patients that are of the highest quality is of paramount importance to every single member of our team. We want each and every patient to leave extremely satisfied with the care they have received.
This procedure and technique has been available worldwide for approximately 7 years. In the UK, it was first started by The Regenerative Clinic 18 months ago.
The procedure has been used primarily in aesthetics and orthopedics but also in gynecology for approximately 5 years. This has been mostly in Italy, but MenoCare is working with Lipogems® to launch it as a gynecological treatment in the UK.
It is because it is still being assessed. A number of studies have clearly concluded its efficiency, but for new treatments to be included on the NHS or under a private medical insurance policy it could take a number of years, as novel treatments require approval and this can take a long time.
For example, platelet-rich plasma has been used for almost 25 years in medical practice, but it has only just become available on the NHS and elsewhere. Despite the overwhelming evidence of its efficiency, there still remains some insurance firms who will not approve platelet rich plasma.
In the procedure, we remove a small proportion of fat tissue from the stomach. This tissue is then put in a closed loop system and washed out with saline fluid in order to remove impurities and then the tissue is re-injected into the genitourinary area.
The cells (called pericytes) stimulate cell repair and growth and encourage the nourishment and hydration of the vaginal mucosa cells. This alleviates symptoms includes vaginal burning and discomfort during intercourse, dryness and soreness.
It takes one hour to complete, and you can leave the clinic on the same day.
This is tailored to each patient and their condition, as well as the exact location and quantity.
In most cases, the injections are concentrated around the vluva, but may also be internal in the vagina and externally to the rectum.
On average, a total of 15-30 ml of Lipogems® is injected, and this takes around 30 minutes.
Yes, for this treatment you will need a light general anaesthetic as it makes the procedure more comfortable for the patient, given that it involves a number of small injections to an intimate area.
It is usually a small amount, approximately 100ml in total. This will then be reduced to around 15-30ml that is then injected into the genitourinary area.
This treatment is a natural soltuion which relies on the body’s own ability to heal itself.
Lipogems® does not involve any oestrogen, hormones or synthetic chemicals in the treatment. This means it can also be used by post-cancer patients.
The treatment is also designed to be single-use only, and the effects are proven to last for 3 years or more.
This is because it is much less invasive than harvesting bone marrow, which can also be very painful too.
Unlike the mesenchmyal cells which can be found in the fat tissue, which are easier and less painful to access too.
In addition, age and gender does not affect the quality of stem cells in fat tissue, as is the case with bone marrow.
Nevertheless, both methods have been considered to be very effective.
In terms of feeling the impact of Lipogems® , it can take as little as 4-6 weeks to start noticing benefits of the procedure, with definitive changes felt around 3 months after.
By the time 6 months have passed, patients tend to feel the peak benefit and this could last for up to 5 years after the initial treatment.
No reports of worsening conditions as a result of Lipogems® treatment has been recorded.
If it does not work, it will not impact on a patients ability for future treatments, or potential effectiveness either.
In very severe cases of Lichen Sclerosus and Planus, it may be necessary to repeat Lipogems® after 6 months or a year.
Lipogems® will also not treat cancer or infertility.
No, it does not effect the outcome of Lipogems® treatment.
It is possible to do the Lipogems® procedure as soon as 6 weeks after the last therapy session.
No it does not affect treatment.
Your gynaecologist will provide you with specific advice but in most cases it is possible to continue taking your HRT medication before and after the procedure.
After the Lipogems® treatment each patient is offered 4 follow up appointments with their gynaecologist, which is part of the package.
Each patient is closely monitored during these appointments, and any non-responders can discuss on-going alternative treatment plan with their gynaecologist.
These cases where the patient has not responded will be reviewed by the MenoCare MDT team.
In the majority of cases, you can return to work 2 days following the procedure.
With most Lipogems® treatments, the theatre date is on a Friday, meaning you have the weekend to fully recover.
Every patient leaves the clinic with an abdominal binder, thrush medication as well as pain medication (2 weeks worth0 to be taken when needed.
You will also receive a telephone call from our practice nurse 1 and 7 days post-procedure, as well as having follow-up appointments with your gynaecologist at 2 weeks and 3,6 and 9 months post Lipogems® treatment.
